Water Lilies
An expressive contemporary oil painting inspired by the luminous beauty of water lilies floating across deep, shifting water.
Rich layers of cobalt and ultramarine blues create a sense of depth and movement, punctuated by vibrant flashes of turquoise, pink, violet, yellow and soft cream. The flowers emerge almost magically from the dark water, their petals built up with energetic palette-knife marks and textured layers of paint.
Rather than depicting the lilies in a purely naturalistic way, the painting captures their feeling: the tension between stillness and movement, darkness and light, delicacy and strength. Each flower seems to glow against the richly textured blue, drawing the eye into the composition.
