Everywoman

everywoman-paola-minekov

The strength of mutual support between two contrasting women is explored in this painting, which was inspired by my close friendship with a former flatmate. The women appear to be backing each other up even when facing in opposite directions.

The painting lends itself to personal interpretation by the viewer and has even been used to illustrate a major scientific work into genetic counselling.

In 2007 this painting became the symbol of Joel Vos’s research into the psychological impact of genetic breast and ovarian cancer at the Leiden University Medical Centre. In 2011 the painting was used on the cover of the research publication.
