Amsterdam

Amsterdam-Paola-Minekov

Found along a canal behind Rembrandtplein, the Dancing Houses of Amsterdam offer one of the most picturesque views of this charming city. Originally the houses were supported by wooden stilts, which eventually let them wobble as if they were dancing. Most houses in Amsterdam have been reinforced and are now safe to occupy.

I was inspired by these happy-looking, saltating homes during the time I lived and studied in Amsterdam. I’ve started observing these houses and making drawings of them and subsequently – these drawings served me as a starting point for this painting.
